Experience Springtime at Stowe, Vermont

One of the most beautiful areas for vacations is in the Northeast; specifically – Stowe, Vermont.

While it is considered a skier’s paradise in the winter, it holds a special place in the hearts of families who visit each year during the spring months.

At Stowe, you can take advantage of every activity available during this time of year. These include biking on the Stowe Recreation Path, a five mile paved trail that begins at the Inn at Stowe Village and takes you through the meadows and forests, and over wooden bridges that are part of this most scenic and enjoyable ride.

You can even make plans to have a picnic lunch and take in some swimming (weather permitting) by checking the many tour options available through the local tour company.

There are over 100 shops, department stores, and shopping malls in the Stowe area. This is one place where you can literally “shop till you drop.” There are also stores where you will find handmade quilts and crafts, as well as their famous maple syrup.

In fact, from March 27 through March 29, you can participate in the Annual Maple Open House Weekend. Here you will learn about how sugar is made as well as sample this sweet delight.

Not to be forgotten is a visit to the Trapp Family Lodge, where you can also learn about the history of sugaring. If this isn’t sweet enough, take a side trip to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory, where samples are offered during the 30-minute tour.

Also make it a point to visit the Depot Street Malt Shoppe. Here, you can order malts, frappes, sundaes, and cones. They also have burgers, sandwiches, and salads. This is a kid-friendly Malt Shoppe that serves lunch and dinner daily.

You and your kids will love the Eden Dog-Sled and Dog-Cart tours. This is a unique experience in that there are 75 acres in the midst of 3000 of protected Vermont wilderness.  Learn how to mush with Jim Blair. Harness and hitch each dog on your team, then take an exhilarating ride through scenic meadows and pristine and private Vermont woodlands.

If you are traveling from New York City, the ride is incredibly beautiful and scenic. Accommodations range from plush resorts to country inns, bed and breakfasts, and chalets. Of course, you will have to check online or with your travel agent to determine the best rates available to accommodate your family.

Orlando and Disney World: A Family Spring Break Spot

Orlando is considered to be one of the most popular destinations year round, but especially during Spring Break. If you are considering an affordable vacation during this time, check out Orlando’s Disney World.

A typical three night hotel package may include:

  • Three nights at the Ramada Gateway (one mile from Walt Disney World)
  • Two combo tickets to Sea World and Aquatica
  • Recreational facilities including a miniature golf course and a heated outdoor pool
  • The Palms Restaurant
  • Complimentary shuttle bus service to the Theme Park
  • Children under 12 Stay Free
  • Cribs – Complimentary
  • Game Room
  • Guest Services Desk
  • Laundry Service
  • Dry Cleaning Service
  • Wake Up Service
  • Pets Allowed – Charges May Apply
  • Restaurant(s) – Deli
  • Elevator/Lift

For air fare rates, call the airlines on a Wednesday as that is typically when the rates change. Or contact your travel agent to obtain the best affordable three-night package available. You may also want to purchase all-day Theme Park tickets as well as tickets for the Epcot Center in advance.

While the aforementioned land package is only $199.00, which is quite inexpensive, begin searching the Internet for air/hotel packages to see if there are cheaper deals. If you stay within a 5-mile radius of the park, there is usually a complimentary shuttle service available.

Book early! With the current recession, most travelers will be choosing destinations that are closer to home. In this regard, if the package you choose offers a car rental, you may consider staying at a hotel that is more than five miles from the park. This will save money in the long run.

TIP: Depending on the weather, visit Walt Disney World in the morning hours and Sea World in the afternoon. Stop by Epcot for dinner and visit the fabulous sites during the evening hours.
