Have anyone been on the Norwegian Star cruise ship heading for the Mexican Riviera? I’m interested in going mid October, but not sure if it a good time and place to go?

I have been on the NCL Star – and did not like NCL at all.
We sailed to Alaska in May. We didn’t like the “free style” dining, and the food was simply horrible on the ship. We would not even eat at the buffet it was so bad.
We did sail Princess STAR to the Mexican Riviera and it was wonderful. There is alot of fun things to do at every stop. It is a fun cruise – but I would re-think NCL.

WE did the Mexico cruise on the star in 2004. It was a nice cruise, except that a hurricane came across Mexico and we had a to change the port stop order and thus missed stopping at one planned cities. The cruise was otherwise great. Even though the weather was bad at that port, by the time we got there it was sunny and clear.

The food was good and so was the staff, although I do not care that much for the NCL “freestyle” dinner thing. But we knew about that before we booked.

I liked the stop in Cabo St Lucas best of the three stops we made. Puerto Vallarta was just OK to me, I think it is overrated based on celebrities going there. Acapulco was also OK. We took a tour there also and saw the cliff divers and the city. Its nice but if I wanted to do a beach I would not go that far for one. My overall impression is that Cabo is the best place of the stops and the Caribbean side of Mexico, i.e., Cancun and Cozumel, has the prettiest beaches.

October should be a good time as its the very tail end of the Caribbean hurricane season and you are not likely to get one come across land. The later in October the better.

I was on the Norwegian Star in mid October 2005. I wrote a review (which I link to below). The review is long, about 19 type written pages.

I was lucky. While I had good weather, the cruise before mine lost some port time because the ship had to spend extra time at sea going around a hurricane.

Here is a link to my review of the cruise …

I went on the NCL Star in 2005 with a group of 27 people. We sailed to Alaska August 21. The cruise was wonderful and the staff were more than accomodating. Entertainment was the best I have seen yet. The freestyle dining was enjoyed by our entire group and there is no need to dress uncomfortably in formal attire. You can dress smart casual. The food was fantastic everywhere that we dined which included the no charge dining rooms, the 24 hour buffet, room service, and the surcharge dining rooms. I fully enjoyed the freestyle experience. If you prefer to meet others you can let the maitre de know that you wish to be sat with others and this can be arranged. I am again going on this ship to Mexico this coming March. Before booking I spoke to three different couples who sailed her last year to Mexico and all said the food was great and the ship is still in beautiful shape. No complaints so we booked our trip to Mexico. Now we are just counting the days till we board the NCL Star again.

I read above where someone recommended doing a Princess cruise as opposed to the NCL cruise. I have done one Princess cruise and will NEVER sail with them again. My experience on Princess was poor. The food was bland and the service with the exception of one bartender and our room attendant was pretty much non-existant and at times down right rude.

My personal choice would be NCL all the way.

Just got back from the NCL Star. We sailed from March 28, 2009 to April 04, 2009. Everything was fantastic once again. I highly recommend this ship. The staff were fantastic and the food in my opinion is still the best I have had on a cruise. The chinese cirque show is still #1 for entertainment too. Thumbs up to the NCL Star and staff.
