How Would A Person Go About Building a Cruise Ship?

cruise ship
orangewaffle88 asked:

I have to build a model of a cruise ship for one of my classes. I can build the model, but I have to explain how it would be built in real life. How do they build real cruise ships? They make them out of steel, right?

Cruise ships are steel hulled today

First the Keel is laid out or set. Then the transverse frames are set with longitudinal frames. The hull plating is welded on, the deck beams are laid and the deck plating is welding in place. That is a simple explanation. That process is done over and over to build the numbers of decks required.

Like most modern ships they are now built in “modules” which are pre-assembled then welded together, thus saving time and cost. Yes they are built of steel as high strength alloys such as titanium are normally used for warships where cost is not really so much of an issue
