Ten Things That Should Be In Your 4th of July Picnic Basket

The 4th of July is not only a day of celebration, but it marks the first day of summer fun – and that includes picnics and barbecues. If you are planning a 4th of July picnic at the beach or at a park, here are ten things that should be in your basket.

  1. Hot Dogs
  2. Hamburgers
  3. Chicken
  4. Buns
  5. Lemonade and bottled water
  6. Watermelon
  7. Salads (either potato or mixed salad)
  8. Potato chips and pretzels
  9. Marshmallows (for roasting on the BBQ later)
  10. A traditional 4th of July cake (There are many online recipes on how to make a red, white, and blue cake for the 4th)

As for the non-food items that are needed, they may include:

  1. Picnic blanket and table cloth
  2. Paper plates, cups, and utensils
  3. Charcoal and stack as well as paper (if you are BBQing) and portable BBQ
  4. Cooler to store food and drinks
  5. Napkins and/or paper towels
  6. Garbage bags
  7. Toys for the kids (Frisbee, football, etc.)
  8. Sun block, towelettes, first aid kit
  9. Digital camera
  10. Extra ice

Before you leave for the picnic site, check with the park’s department or beach site to see if they have a barbeque area on site. Some beaches and parks have a specified area along with tables and benches.

If you plan on spending the day at the park, choose an area that is shaded so that the food doesn’t spoil and the kids aren’t too uncomfortable from the heat. However, place the portable barbecue further away from where you set up.

Note: If you bring your pet, ensure you have enough water for him to drink as well as food.

Enjoy the 4th of July celebration with family and friends. Make a day of it either at the park or beach. Adhere to the rules and regulations and ensure you clean up before you leave. It’s going to be a great day!
