Essential Travel First Aid Checklist | Travel & Vacation Tips & Resources

Travel First Aid Checklist

Whether you are traveling to Kenya on a Safari or to Orlando’s Magic Kingdom, there are specific items to include in your first aid kit.

Furthermore, before including any first aid items on your trip, it is necessary to check with the airlines to ascertain what is allowed on board and to have these items contained in a clear plastic bag so they can easily be checked at the airport security section.

What items should be included in your travel kit? Here is a list that contains both first aid and other essentials you may wish to consider taking on your next family trip, whether you are traveling by air, rail, bus, or car.

  • Band aids
  • Cotton swabs
  • Alcohol packets
  • Neosporin (to treat cuts and/or burns)
  • Insect repellent
  • Ace bandages
  • Tweezers and small scissors
  • Allergy medication (bring along a doctor’s note stating it is required)
  • Aspirin – both for children and adults
  • Antihistamine
  • Antacid
  • Disposable gloves
  • Thermometer
  • Towelette cloths (preferably disinfectant)
  • Ipecac
  • Imodium AD
  • Lozenges
  • Flashlight
  • Batteries
  • Prescription Medications (a doctor’s note is required as well)
  • Sun Screen
  • Bottled water
  • Blanket
  • Bandages
  • Ointments
  • Ice Packs
  • Traditional First Aid Kit
  • First Aid Guidebook

This is just a partial list and undoubtedly your family may require additional items. Keep in mind, however, that most airlines will not allow certain items to be carried on board flights.

If you are traveling by car or bus, you can easily add to the list any items that may be needed. If traveling by rail, you may also wish to contact the rail company to ascertain if there are any restrictions.
